A Message From The Publisher | December 2020

Welcome to The Holiday Issue, Alexandria!

There is no doubt that everyone's holiday story will look a bit different this year, but we hope you find comfort within these pages. I am so proud of my team here at VIP Alexandria for curating such a beautiful holiday issue with care. It was always our hope that we would end such a difficult year on a positive note by sharing more of the inspiring stories we have become so well known for, in addition to supporting our local small businesses.

Our feature story is one that is very near and dear to all of our hearts. The cancellation of The Alexandria Scottish Walk Weekend did not come as a surprise to anyone, but it was difficult to hear all the same. Alexandria's soul seems to shine a bit brighter each holiday season as the bagpipes roar to life and our community comes together to support those in need. We are so thrilled that, despite this cancellation, we were able to bring this 50-year tradition to life within this publication. We hope you enjoy exploring its history and mission, as well as learning more about Scottish holiday traditions and Alexandria's sister city in Scotland.

Speaking of exploring, our Creative Director ventured out into Alexandria this month in search of the most creative cocktail and dessert pairings that our local restaurants had to offer. Her findings are included in the pages ahead, as well as delicious recipes for hosting a Hannukah dinner celebration at home.

Of course, no holiday issue of VIP would be complete without pages and pages of local holiday gifts! We had such a wonderful time working with these fantastic local businesses and cannot wait to check all of their wonderful gifts off of our own, personal shopping lists this season. From fashion and custom jewelry to craft beer memberships and teas of the season, there is bound to be something for everyone!

I'd like to end this month's letter with a friendly reminder to shop and dine local this holiday season -- even if that means ordering curbside or placing orders with your favorite boutiques online. Shopping local has always been such an important part of our community, but never more so than it became in 2020. As we embark into the unknown over the next several weeks, please be sure to keep our local businesses in your thoughts. After all, they are the heartbeat of our beloved Old Town.

Peace and joy to you all, dear readers. Wishing you and your loved ones good health and happiness this holiday season.

Until 2021, Alexandria!
