Mason Neck Park hosted the 2019 Veterans Lorton 5K, 10K, and 1M race this year. The race was a fundraiser in partnership with Operation Turbo, an organization that sends reminders of home to deployed U.S. service members. Participants of all ages raced the bike paths, beginning with the 10k; each race began in stagger. Participants not only showed support through registering to race, but they also sported Operation Turbo gear while running; runners who were not able to attend race day had the option of a virtual run to demonstrate their support from afar. Thanks to Operation Turbo and the runners, deployed services members were able to get a slice of home mailed to them, regardless of where in the world they currently are.
