The Thirteen Choir: “Silent Night, Starry Night: The Constellation of Apollo; Holiday Carols”

If the winter sky makes you starry-eyed, you’ll love The Thirteen’s vocal voyage through space and their unique presentation of the Christmas story. In addition to featuring the traditional holiday carols, you’ll also hear The Thirteen’s own arrangement of “Silent Night,” and contemporary composer Kile Smith’s “The Consolation of Apollo,” making this a must-see event! Perfect for anyone who finds wonder in the universe, The Consolation of Apollo pairs the words of the Apollo 8 astronauts on Christmas Eve 1968 with the writings of Roman philosopher Boethius for an exceptional and inspiring take on the Christmas story. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing, projected images from NASA’s Hubble telescope will be shown throughout the performance. Tickets: $17.50. Alexandria Harmonizers Annual Holiday Show: “The Secret of Christmas”

Celebrate the sounds of the season with the Alexandria Harmonizers, the area's premiere a cappella chorus, as they present their annual holiday show, “Celebrate the Season.” Additional features to the performance include special guests Pratt Street Power and the Quin-Tones. Christmas Illuminations at Mount Vernon

Take a step back in time at Mount Vernon for an evening of family-friendly fun and a fantastic fireworks display choreographed to festive holiday music. Before the fireworks, stroll the estate as you listen to local choirs singing songs from the season and visit with re-enactors from the First Virginia Regiment. If you’ve ever wanted to meet the First Lady, now’s your chance, as Martha Washington will be greeting holiday guests. For even more sweet fun, watch as colonial artisans demonstrate the 18th-century process of chocolate making, then visit Aladdin the camel. Stay warm and cozy by the bonfire as you sip hot chocolate or cider, then visit the Museum and Education Center (open from 5:30 to 8 p.m.) before picking up last-minute gifts at the Shops at Mount Vernon.
