The Chamber ALX June Spotlight: Patrick Coye

The Chamber ALX June Spotlight: Patrick Coye

Story by Kellie Gunderman

In 2007, while working toward a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Patrick Coye was not quite sure what he wanted to do with his life. All he knew was that construction had always been a part of it. One giant leap of faith, one business license and one insurance policy later, Patrick’s Painting was born and Patrick had become an entrepreneur at just twenty years old.

The business began to grow slowly, year by year, and while you can still catch a glimpse of Patrick with a brush in his hand, he now spends most of his time behind the scenes, assessing client’s needs and managing projects. “I love being able to provide a valuable service to our clients that enhances their life.”

Armed with a fantastic office manager named Genesis and state of the art project management software, Patrick has been able to build a great team that uses pre-job and post-job checklists to ensure that each and every project begins strong and is completed with all expectations being met. “My team follows COP’s (Craftsman Operation Procedures). Our COP’s ensure the work being done is done correctly and in the most efficient manner.”

Patrick dreams of Patrick's Painting becoming Alexandria’s go-to painting contractor, known for their friendliness, clear communication and respect for clients’ belongings/furniture/plants. He trains his team to not only be easy to work with, but also committed to quality work.

Aside from working one-on-one with clients and members of his team, Patrick’s favorite aspect of life as a small business owner is being able to make connections with members of the community. He loves living in a diverse area, in which most people are transplanted, and learning everyone’s stories. With a mindset like this, it’s no wonder that Patrick was nominated for The Chamber ALX’s 40 Under 40 Award.

“I joined the chamber because I felt it was another great way to meet other successful business owners within the community. I try to make the networking breakfasts and happy hours when I’m free. They are always a great place to meet other reputable professionals.”

In addition to The Chamber ALX, Patrick is an active member of the Alexandria Rotary Club, where he assists in the organization and setup of the annual Flags for Heroes Fundraiser. (This year, the fundraiser will be held at Cedar Knoll Restaurant over the weekend of June 27th.) Additionally, Patrick volunteers for Rebuild Alexandria and the Boys and Girls Club in the Murray Gate Community in Alexandria.

When Patrick is not working, networking or volunteering, you can find him doing something outside with his family or helping others train for the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament which they were in the middle of when Covid hit. He credits his discipline and work ethic to the sport of boxing — both traits that have made him the ideal employer and contractor.
