Dear Alexandria,
I have just three words for you: We made it! I can't believe I am writing my first publisher’s letter of 2021! We have so many exciting stories to share with you, so let's not waste any time!
When we released our Gentlemen’s Issue back in August 2020, everyone wanted to know where the ladies were. Well, I am excited to tell you that the wait is now over!
I am so proud to introduce you to Alexandria's Most Inspiring Women of 2021. Though the women of this class each have their own unique and powerful story to tell, they all have one thing in common: They want you to GO RED FOR WOMEN all February long!
Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association's signature women's initiative. Heart disease continues to be the number one killer of women in America, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 of us. This month, we are using our voices to raise awareness because losing even one woman is not an option.
How can you help? How can you join the movement? Of course, you can make a monetary donation on the VIP American Heart Association website at www2.heart.org/goto/vipalexandriamagazine, but this goes so far beyond swiping a credit card. Explore the stories ahead and share them. If you're holding this book in your hands, pass it off to a friend when you're done. If you're reading this online, share it on social media! One click could save a life.
But most importantly, educate yourself and take charge of your heart health! Because like our 'Inspiring Women' you have a beautiful story to tell... and we want you to stick around long enough to share it!
We're also proud to celebrate Black History Month in this issue, alongside John Chapman of Manumission Tours. Travel back in time to learn more about Alexandria's African American heritage. Because understanding our past will open the door to our future!
Until next month, Alexandria! Keep sharing your stories, supporting one another and remember to GO RED all February!
