Everything You Need to Know About The Winter Village at Cameron Run

No matter your age, the holiday season is a magical time of year. The sights, sounds, and smells are full of all the feels, packed like an overstuffed stocking with memories of the people, places, and things we love and traditions that we cherish. NOVA Parks hopes to help create those memories and establish new traditions with Ice & Lights – The Winter Village at Cameron Run Regional Park.

Running from mid-November to January 5, the Winter Village at Cameron Run is a fully realized winter wonderland with festive fun for the whole family: fire pits; wreath photo-ops; heated igloos; lit design stars; a 100-foot RGB lighted tunnel; a massive walk-thru tree; a magic snowflake maker; tasty treats including hot chocolate, donuts, and pizza at Slice & Ice; holiday merchandise at Bling and Things; and themed, joyful games and activities to get everyone in the spirit of the season – perhaps most importantly, lacing up your skates and getting out on the ice.

“Visitors always love coming to the area to see the beautiful light displays at NOVA Parks, and this year, we’re opening another winter special event called Ice & Lights, transforming Great Waves Waterpark with a 55’x80’ outdoor ice rink that will allow visitors to glide across the ice under twinkling lights,” said park operations superintendent Blythe Russian. Open throughout the course of the Winter Village, Ice & Lights will also be open weekends through the end of February, providing skate rentals for a nominal fee. Winter Village is like a Christmas gift delivered by the jolly old elf himself. “We anticipate that the event will draw a number of visitors from around the region to visit Alexandria, and we foresee it being a great success,” said Russian.

If you’re in search of even more holiday-themed fun, check out the nearby Bull Run Festival of Lights, which features 2.5 miles of holiday light displays perfect for viewing on a leisurely drive from comfort of your car as you bask in the glow of countless lights twinkling magically against the night sky. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens lights up as well, stringing up their grounds for a light show set during their Walk of Lights.

NOVA Parks takes getting onto Santa’s nice list very seriously, as they give their all to create the perfect settings for holiday wishes to come true. It’s a chance to lose yourself in the magic of the season – an escape for the senses that takes your heart and mind back to a time when childlike wonder made everything seem special and exciting. At Ice & Lights – The Winter Village at Cameron Run, holiday wishes for special memories are wrapped up and waiting to be delivered.
