How to Find Your Entertaining Style this Fall

Brought to you by Patina Polished Living

Everyone has their own entertaining style. Some prefer a formal table with place cards, napkin rings and floral arrangements. Others like the simplicity of a table set only with the necessities required for eating. With the holidays fast approaching, Patina Polished Living has several useful suggestions to help you create beautiful tables this season. Whether your gathering is large or small, you’ll be sure to find everything you need to be festive.

Patina is a charming home and garden gift store located in Old Town Alexandria. There is no need to drive around searching for parking as they have complimentary spaces right out front! Shop owners Amanda Mertins and Kim Weiler combined their degrees in economics and graphic design to create a home décor store specializing in vintage finds, traditional style and the latest design trends. “We strive to find unique items which make a home special. As we enter the holiday/entertaining season, our focus turns to tabletop ideas,” say the owners. Juliska, Michael Aram and Herend are lines which provide several different options for casual and formal dining settings. Patina has an extensive selection of napkin choices which are practical (think reusable) and add color.

It is also important to think of the comfort you provide your guests and yourself with the use of plush throw pillows and luxury throws. The townhome shop is filled with pillows in every possible color and pattern. If you can’t find what you desire, there is a fabric room where you can spend as much time as you want and design your own.

The shop's herringbone throws, woven in Italy and New Zealand, provide fresh color and coziness. Available in 65 different shades and a washable blend, they are perfect for families with children and pets. Amanda and Kim also provide design services, saying, “We love helping our clients turn challenging design situations into spaces and rooms they love. Everyone tells a story through their belongings. Sometimes furniture is in the wrong spot, art is hung too high or someone might need to be given 'permission' to let an unwanted piece go.” Finally, let’s not forget that Alexandria's autumn weather enables us to entertain outside well into November. The shop's selection of Kew, Campo de Fiori, Berg Pottery, Campania and several vintage garden containers and accessories will add charm to your outdoor space.

Old Town is delightful, bursting with historical charm and full of wonderful, caring people. The owners of Patina consider themselves fortunate to enjoy all it has to offer. You can visit them at 605 Franklin St. in Old Town, Alexandria or online at www.patinapolishedliving.com.
