As the Vice President and Head of Public Policy for General Motors (GM), Omar Vargas was the perfect choice to head the automaker’s government and corporate relations efforts at a time of much uncertainty. “I lead the company’s engagement with policy makers and other stakeholders throughout the world to help GM achieve its vision of a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. It is an exciting time to lead these efforts, as the company is dedicated to transforming mobility,” says Vargas.
Married with three children, the 48-year-old is a passionate family man who loves to garden, cook, and entertain friends. He’s also a weather nerd and someone who applies sports analogies to life and work situations. Vargas was even called up to try out for the Amazing Race. “I have a work hard/play hard philosophy in everything I do,” he says.
In his down-time, Vargas—known as “Cliff Claven” to his friends—likes to hang out in Old Town at Big Wheel Bikes, Dolci Gelati, Sport & Health, Founders Park, Chadwick’s, and BARCA Pier & Wine Bar. Fun fact: his dogs Cleo and Dodger have an Instagram page that he manages.
